Jacques Bernard "Jacky" Ickx (born 1 January 1945, in Brussels) is a Belgian former racing driver who won the 24 Hours of Le Mans six times, achieved eight wins and 25 podium finishes in Formula One, won the Can-Am Championship in 1979 and is a former winner of the Dakar Rally.

Motorsport career

Formula One

Ickx made his Grand Prix debut at the 1966 German Grand Prix driving a Matra MS5-Cosworth one-litre Formula Two car which was entered by Ken Tyrrell. He failed to finish the race, colliding on lap 1 with John Taylor who later died of his injuries. Ickx made his Formula One debut in 1967 at the Italian Grand Prix in a Cooper T81B-Maserati, finishing sixth, despite suffering a puncture on the last lap. For 1968 Ickx joined the Scuderia Ferrari team, with whom he'd spend a total of five years. At the French Grand Prix at Rouen he took his first win, in heavy rain. After a year at Brabham Ickx returned to Ferrari in 1970, ending the year second place in the Drivers' Championship, his best finish.

In 1974, after spending the last four years with Ferrari, achieveing a total of 6 wins, he joined Team Lotus, spending a difficult two years there. Ickx moved to Wolf-Williams Racing in 1976, later swapping seats with Chris Amon at Ensign racing. In 1977 and 1978 Ickx entered a handfull of races for Ensign before ending his Grand Prix career in 1979 at Ligier, standing in for the injured Patrick Depailler.
